Foundation Builders Children’s Church
Calvary Chapel Saving Grace
We welcome you and your children to Foundation Builders - the Children’s Ministry of Calvary Chapel Saving Grace. Our desire is that your children will feel welcome, comfortable, and safe as they come to worship the Lord. Our goal is to do all we can to minister to the individual needs of every child God brings us. We love children and desire that every one will “Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18
In the Gospels we see the special place that children hold in Jesus’ heart. He wants children to come to Him and to learn about Him. Our aim in Foundation Builders is to “Lay a Foundation in Jesus’ Name.” We desire every child in our care to see and know the worth of God and to savor and enjoy Jesus as their greatest treasure. This is our aim and measure in everything we do.
In our ministry to children we desire to emphasize what the Bible emphasizes, which is the teaching of God’s Word. 2 Timothy 3:15 says, “… from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
We believe that it is important to teach children the Word of God, so that they might be lead into a relationship with Jesus Christ and understand the knowledge and greatness of God which will direct them throughout their lives. This is the “Foundation” we set out to lay.
This website will walk you through each class of our Children’s Ministry and is designed to teach the parent how the Children’s Ministry here at Calvary Chapel Saving Grace runs. I ask you as the parent that you would commit each teacher and Children’s Ministry Volunteer in your prayers. They are working hard in preparing their lessons, crafts, activities, games and so on… and I know they are praying for your children.
Dedicated to laying a foundation in Jesus’ name in the lives of Children,
Chris Bohon
Children’s Ministry Director
Your child will read, experience, and investigate, the entire Bible. Through teaching, worship, puppets, felt theater, and drama, your child will explore their personal relationship with Jesus.

General Info: Please make sure your child has an up-to-date emergency contact card on file with us. If you need to update it please talk to the teacher at the sign-in table.
Please help us run the check-in and check-out process smoothly by being on-time (before and after service) and waiting in line patiently with your child. Make sure to explain the check-in procedures to your child and please help us keep them accountable to follow them (for example – if your child see’s you after service they will naturally run directly to you even if they are not checked out or you are not at the front of the line.).
Make sure your child’s physical needs are met. Has your child eaten a healthy meal before arriving?
Has your Child gone to the rest room before arriving?
Does he/she have on suitable clothing?
Is your child ill?
Have you encouraged your child to use the restroom?
Make sure all possessions (Bibles, coats, diapers bags, etc.) are marked with your child’s full name.
Discuss your child’s attitude in Church. Discuss respect for teachers and other adults.
Reinforce consideration for other children.
Discuss behavior on church grounds (how to treat facilities, obeying class rules, etc.).
Arriving On-time:
We understand that it is a very difficult challenge getting yourself and your children ready for church and out the door on-time. We do want to ask that you would make every effort possible to arrive on-time to church and have your child checked into Children’s Ministry before class starts. It is very difficult for a teacher to stop the whole class to catch a latecomer up to the rest of the class and it is unfair to the children that were on-time to have to wait.
If you are running late and there is no teacher at the sign in table outside please wait patently for the teacher to come to you. Do not come to the class door. When one of the teachers can break away they will come to you or the Children’s Ministry leadership will check in your child.
It is our utmost concern to ensure that your children are safe, secure, and protected. Our team of roamers does their best to continually uphold this safe exterior environment. To ensure the safety of the children inside the classrooms; the following procedures have been put into practice.
Servant Background Checks
For the safety of the children, every Teacher, Aide, Coordinator, and Servant in Children’s Ministry is put through a rigorous screening process.
An active Ministry Application is on file and approved.
Three reference letters are on file.
Servants must attend Calvary Chapel for at least 6 months.
Background checks are done through the State of California and FBI.
Interview with the Children’s Pastor.
Responsible for following the policy and procedures manual.
General Security Info
As you walk up to the Children’s Ministry you will notice that there is a plastic chain and posts blocking off about 8 feet in front of the Children’s Ministry. We do this for a couple of reasons. First and most obvious is for security. No one is allowed to come inside the chained off area unless they are approved Children’s Ministry workers or are accompanied by an approved Children’s Ministry worker. You can identify a children’s ministry worker by a picture name nametag around their neck. The Light of the World nursery has a table in front of the door. If at any time you need to pull your child out of Children’s Ministry please do not come past these boundaries. Wait patiently for a Children’s Ministry worker to come to you and they will check your child out.
If your child is struggling and doesn’t want to go into the class without you (the Parent), you are allowed to accompany the child into the class as long as service hasn’t started yet. If you do need to accompany them into the class you will only be allowed to stay with them for 5-10 minutes. If class is going on you will be able to walk your child to the door. Please keep in mind that this can be interruptive to the class so please be sensitive when you open the door and try to keep the distraction to a minimum.
There are Children’s Ministry Bathrooms located in the back of the Children’s Ministry Building. NO ADULT (parent or teacher) is allowed to use these bathrooms. An approved Female Children’s Ministry worker will escort the children to the restrooms during service.
If you have any question about our security procedures please see the Children’s Ministry Pastor.
As a healthy church grows in its adult population; it grows correspondingly in its child population. There is ALWAYS a need for additional help. The more help we have, the greater and more effective our ministry can be. “But I don’t think I would be good at serving children” you might say. If you step out, the Lord will equip you with all you need. It is good to pray and seek guidance from the Lord, but then God calls us to act. If God has made you sensitive to a need, chances are, you are being called to fill that position. If God has not called you to fill a position, your prayers and support are sincerely appreciated.
If you are interested in helping, please contact the Children’s Ministry Director or one of the Class Directors. If you need more information and/or direction please call the Church office at (714) 993-4801. We will help you prepare for the exciting opportunities God has for you in Children’s Ministry.
We are appreciative of your desire to raise your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.
